Business Development Executive - Commercial Property Insurance

The right candidate for this really exciting opportunity will have a passion for generating new business and will show energy, drive and professionalism. The responsibilities of the role will include sourcing and contacting leads within the Commercial Property Insurance market, arranging and hosting sales meetings, and converting prospects into new business.


Head office in Borehamwood but there will be travel around the South East and the rest of the UK

Hours – Monday to Friday 

Qualified to a minimum of Cert CII status, ACII would be beneficial

What you'll be getting up to:

  • Implementing the agreed Business Development strategy to secure new customers and retain key clients in each of the product lines
  • Being proactive in identifying new leads, taking the initiative in making contact and following through to completion
  • Building profitable partnerships with new and existing clients and suppliers ensuring this is built upon mutual respect and integrity at all times
  • Actively demonstrating the ability to cross sell and upsell other products and services
  • Arranging and attending client meetings as well as drop in visits to potential new clients and suppliers
  • Attend various industry events to promote the companies suite of products to both new and existing customers
  • Ensuring you keep your industry knowledge up to date providing the best advice and guidance to customers and prospects in a transparent and honest way
  • Conduct research and competitor analysis on a regular basis to ensure you are aware of the competitor's share of the market, and their strengths and weaknesses
  • Actively participate and contribute to marketing initiatives with innovative ideas and suggestions
  • Organise coordinate and where required attend workshops, events, presentations and webinars, supporting the education team where needed

What you'll need to have:

  • Educated to an “A” Level (or equivalent) with at least and A – C in English and Maths
  • At least 5 years insurance sales experience in the commercial property and commercial combined markets. (An understanding of marine insurance would be beneficial)
  • Qualified to a minimum of Cert CII status with ACII status being beneficial 
  • Proven relationship management and sales experience with strong communication and presentation skills
  • Confidence to deal with large clients, attend client meetings and represent at industry events in a calm and knowledgeable way
  • Excellent negotiation and interpersonal abilities
  • Excellent customer service skills (both written and verbal)
  • Ability to effectively analyse data, reach conclusions, make recommendations, and produce reports
  • A good knowledge of Microsoft Office packages with very good skills using Excel and PowerPoint
  • Must be able to travel across England and Wales as required, including overnight


  • Car allowance of £5,000 per year (paid monthly)
  • Annual Leave – 28 days plus UK bank holidays
